UNDP is implementing a project on Conservation of Iranian wetlands. Urmia Lake, one of the Iranian wetlands is considered by UNDP as one of the project sites. UNDP, Iran has published a report on Urmia Lake entitled " Lake Uromiyeh: A Concise Baseline Report".
This paper presents the results of an assessment about interaction between Urmia Lake (UL) and coastal groundwater in the Urmia aquifer (UA). This aquifer is the most significant contributor to the freshwater supply of the coastal areas. The use of hydro chemical facies can be very useful to identify the saltwater encroachment or freshening phases in the coastal aquifers.
The satellite images of Urmia Lake from 1984 to 2012 were processed by remote sensory tests and required calculations were performed to obtain Lakes are. In addition, the lake changing procedures and the drought effects were investigated.
